In the year 1974, he played for the University of Tulsa. He continued playing for the university till the mid, end, or starting of the year 1975. Steve emerged as one of the strongest players and a good competitor for the opposite team, but still, he was not selected until the fourth round of the 1976 NFL Draft. Instead, he was selected for the Seattle Seahawks eighth-round pick. He spent 14 years with the Seahawks. His practice session with the team did not go how it was supposed to be; it went horribly bad.
